Bourbon is a good barbecue sauce ingredient. The rich sweetness of this wine goes well with the smoky taste of paprika. Plus, this paprika-packed adobo sauce adds an earthy flavor to the sauce to boot.

And while Chipotle Bourbon BBQ sauce sounds more distinctive than other standard barbecue sauces, it’s actually quite versatile. It is delicious with pork, chicken or steak. Whether it’s a marinade or a spicy sauce for shredded meat. And don’t forget to use it as a dipping sauce for fried appetizers like chicken fingers or cheese sticks.

Chipotle Bourbon BBQ Sauce

  • 1 1/4 cups ketchup
  • 1/4 cup bourbon
  • 1 paprika from chili powder adobo
  • 1 yellow onion, diced
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon dark brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon chipotle adobo in adobo
  • 1/2 teaspoon celery salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • in medium saucepan Melt butter and add yellow onion over medium heat. Cook onions until soft and clear (about 5 minutes).

  • Add minced garlic and stir for 1 more minute.

  • With tomato sauce, bourbon, paprika, adobo sauce, apple cider vinegar Balsamic vinegar, honey and brown sugar Lower heat and stir.

  • Let the sauce simmer for 30 to 40 minutes on low heat.

  • Use a blender to blend the sauce until smooth.

  • Add salt, celery and black pepper. Stirred.

  • Turn off the heat and let the sauce cool to room temperature.

  • Use immediately or transfer to an airtight container and chill the sauce in the refrigerator for up to a week. (The sauce will increase in spiciness during this time.)
