How hot is Habanero cornbread? Habaneros are pretty hot (100,000 to 350,000 Scoville heat units), so – even if they’re only used once in this recipe – there’s going to be a bit of spiciness here. The sweetness of Habanero goes well with the sweetness of the tortillas. It’s a completely different taste. (And heat obviously) with traditional jalapeno tortillas. Jalapeños have a brighter, more grassy flavor that serves as a more flavorful foil for bread.

As always: be careful when using habanero peppers. This is not a chili to get. For those unfamiliar with the Scoville scale, treating Habaneros like jalapenos is easy. Since you can find these peppers at most major grocery stores, many peppers are adjacent to other peppers. But in fact, they are at least twelve times hotter than the hottest jalapenos. Wear gloves when handling to avoid quite a significant burn. and know how to avoid it if it happens

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup of corn
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 glass of milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 Habanero pepper, chopped, add more if desired
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

  • Lightly spray the baking tray.

  • In a large bowl combine flour, cornstarch, sugar, salt, and baking powder and mix well.

  • In a separate bowl, combine eggs, butter, milk, and olive oil.

  • Combine both bowls and mix well.

  • Add Habanero peppers and mix.

  • Pour into a baking dish and bake for 25 to 30 minutes (depending on how thick you’re pouring), or until tortillas are cooked through the middle.
